Dormancy

The pandemic took time away from Tiny Seeds. It wasn’t the typical pandemic woes, but rather the fact that I was pursuing a second Montessori credential and student teaching. As I finished up that chapter, I found that I didn’t turn back to Tiny Seeds. Rather, it stayed idol, waiting.

Recently I’ve been working on bringing Tiny Seeds back “online”, getting things up and running. I’ve felt a lot of guilt about the missed opportunities over the past few months, the changes in direction, the period of dormancy.

When I thought of dormancy, however, my mindset shifted. Nature offers periods of dormancy, quiescence, hibernation, torpor. We see this as a natural rhythm. We don’t question it, we don’t look down on the creatures or plants who “turn off” for a period.

Perhaps this is a lesson we can take from nature; give ourselves permission to embrace this rhythm that allows for slowing down. Let’s not see our periods of “low productivity” as failure, but rather embrace what Mother Nature has known all along:

Sometimes we need to lay fallow, dormant, asleep - we just need to wait. What comes when the fields are planted and those tiny seeds are no longer dormant may be a beauty to behold.

And so, after this time away, Tiny Seeds has begun to grow again. There is new vision, new clarity, new direction. However, just like seeds in nature, this tiny seed will take time to unfurl its roots and shoots, time to reach toward the sun, and time to blossom. I look forward to walking this journey with you and experiencing the splendor of new growth.
